Degree Audit and Four-Year Planner
Modernization

Enhanced Tools for Students and Advisors

The University of Utah's Office of the Registrar has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to identify a qualified vendor for a comprehensive degree audit and planning tool. This tool will enhance the student and advisor experience, simplify academic planning, and support the University's strategic goal of providing accessible, high-quality education.

Our Commitment

The University of Utah is committed to delivering an exceptional educational experience to its diverse and growing student body. In support of this mission, the University seeks a future-proof degree audit and planning tool that seamlessly integrates with PeopleSoft’s Campus Solutions Student Information System, along with other platforms like EAB’s Navigate and Salesforce. The selected solution must meet current needs while also being adaptable to future growth and changes in academic programs.

Improved Experience

The primary goal of this project is to implement a user-friendly tool that simplifies the process of navigating complex curricular requirements for students, advisors, and administrators. The tool will offer an intuitive interface accessible to users of all experience levels and compatible with a variety of devices. It must also align with ADA standards to ensure accessibility for all members of the University community.

  • An intuitive interface designed for ease of use by students, advisors, and administrators.
  • Course plans automatically generated for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students based on their degree audits, with "What-If" scenarios to explore alternative academic paths.
  • Planning tools that allow students to adjust their schedules in real time, plan for future terms, and receive notifications for important deadlines.
  • Holistic degree audits that accommodate multiple credentials (e.g., majors, minors, certificates) and non-course requirements.
  • Advisor and administrator capabilities to modify course plans, lock specific requirements, and set distributed security controls for managing exceptions and waivers.
  • Robust reporting features for course demand planning, identifying students who are off track, and other analytical needs.
  • A scalable and adaptable design to support the University’s evolving academic programs and ensure the system meets future needs.

Degree Audit RFP: Our Approach and Commitment to Student Success

As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the student experience and supporting timely degree completion, we are excited to share an update on our approach to the Degree Audit Request for Proposal (RFP). This initiative is a key step in modernizing our academic planning tools and ensuring students have clear, accessible pathways to graduation.

Objectives Centered on Student Success

The primary goals of the degree audit project are to:

  • Empower students with intuitive tools to track their academic progress.
  • Support advisors and faculty with accurate, real-time data to guide students effectively.
  • Streamline administrative processes to reduce barriers and improve efficiency.
  • Ensure transparency in degree planning and completion.

By aligning our systems with these objectives, we aim to create a more supportive and navigable academic journey for every student.

A Multi-Pronged Approach to Stakeholder Engagement in the RFP Process

To ensure the RFP reflects the diverse needs of our campus community, we took a multi-pronged approach to gathering input:

  • Stakeholder Consultations: We solicited RFP requirements from stakeholders across undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. This included advisors, faculty, and administrative leaders who work closely with students at every stage of their academic journey.
  • Campus-Wide Surveys: We distributed surveys to students, faculty, and staff to gather broad-based feedback on current challenges and future needs.
  • Follow-Up Conversations: For those who indicated interest in deeper engagement through the survey, we conducted follow-up meetings to better understand their perspectives and incorporate their insights into the RFP.

This inclusive process helped us build a comprehensive set of requirements that reflect the real-world needs of our academic community.
